The Jon Olofsson story

We knew he is born in Norra Fogelhem, Södra Wi socken July 6, 1753.

“Norra Fogelhem” means North Birdshome.

He married Stina Nilsdotter in October 1782 and they move to Mjöhult just north the old road between Vimmerby and Eksjö.

We believe there are a few farms in the village, Mjöhult.

Probably their farm is named Östergård

They raise a family and got children ;

Maja Stina b March 1st 1784 and d September 17, 1838 in Mjöhult.

Olof b May 2nd 1786 and d 1869 in Mjöhult

Peter b June 21 1789 and d in Norralund, Vimmerby 1863

Jon b January 31 1792 and d October 10 1810 in Mjöhult

Nils b March 23 1794 and ?

Jon Olofsson´s parents were

Olof Jonsson probably b 1701 in Käbbo, Södra Wi

he married

Karin Nilsdotter from Näfstad

Her parents were

Nils Larsson b 1671 and d 1749

he married

Inger Jonsdotter 1698. She died 1720 ?

Stina Nilsdotter´s parents were

Nils Persson and Helena Persdotter.

No years at all.

After giving birth to five children Stina dies 1806, aged 44.

Her husband, Jon Olofsson “stays” until 1818.

He is said to be a juryman for about 20 years. And sure his children helped him on the farm. I died at the age of 65 and believing he was a practical man, he prepared for the eldest son Olof to take over.

Probably Maja Stina stayed on the farm but also the Peter moved out. Jon had died 1810 and we do not know about Nils. If he was alive he probably moved out too, aged 24.

The solution was that Peter moved and built a cottage of his own on a near place called Nyhult.

“Ny” means new and “hult” an open meadow like place. Maybe he had help from Olof and that the father still was alive, giving him the right to do this.

I get back to Peter later but will first tell you what happened to Olof at Mjöhult.

Most important in the new situation was that Olof married Stina Johansdotter b 1792 in Rumskulla and d march 23 1858 in Mjöhult.

They got two son:

Johan Peter b August 5th, 1821 and d 1853 in Mjöhult, aged 32.

and

Anders Magnus b October 1, 1827 in Mjöhult

The boys helped their father with the farm. And so did Olof´s sister Maja Stina until she died 1837. 1858 Olof´s wife died in Mjöhult, aged 66. Olof lived in Mjöhult and died 1869. aged 83.

Ander Magnus and his wife Anna Stina and their four children moved to Skäfshult a bit north Mjöhult in 1873.

Maybe his grandfather Jon Olofsson had a connection to Skäfshult before he married and moved to Mjöhult.

Anders Magnus is closing a circle leaving Mjöhult. We do not know who came after.

The Peter Jonsson Story 1789-1863.

Peter married Anna Greta Olofsdotter from Rumskulla b May 17,1797. They start their life in Nyhult and raise a big family.

Their children were:

Anna Stina b December 8, 1817 and dead the year after.

Sara Stina b February 24, 1819

Jonas Peter b May 28, 1821

Carl Johan b July 30, 1823

Olaus b February 20, 1825

Anders Fredrik b March 10, 1827

Johanna b November 25, 1828

Otto b November 17, 1830

Per August b August 15, 1832 and dead in June 1,1833.

Anna Greta Olofsdotter dies in “childbed” in Nyhult 1834 and leaves Peter alone with the children. Maybe Christina Pettersdotter now is coming up to Nyhult to help him.

She has lived with her parents in Norralund. Her father Peter Nilsson

dies there 1837 and She moves with her mother to Fagerhult not far from Norralund.

She probably is a house keeper before getting married to Peter Jonsson in 1840.

She is 32 and he is 54.

They move to Norralund I Skillingarum, Vimmerby 1840

Some of the children will follow them.

Christina Pettersdotter was a maid. Christina was born on the vicarage Näs in Vimmerby in Jan.15,1808. Her parents worked there as farm-hand and maid. Her father was Peter Nilsson born in Södra Wi 1784 and dead in Norralund, Vimmerby 1837. Han married Anna Jonsdotter Wigren born 1782 in 1808. She was 26 years of age giving birth to Christina. Maybe her parents got Norralund as a legacy on the Wigren side. This is just an idea to solve two problems ; when Christina married Peter Jonsson they already planed to move to Norralund taking over her father´s farm. Her mother moved to Fagerhult, not far from Norralund to help them get a good start.

The new family moved to Vimmerby 1840 and both Fredrik and Ida Christina are born at Norralund.

All of Peter´s children who lived in Nyhult probably moved to Norralund.
The eldest Sara Stina was 21 and the youngest Otto ten. After Petter Jonsson died in 1863, aged 74 many people were living at Norralund. First of all is Christina and her children Fredrik and Ida Christina. Both Axel and Viktor were born there, before Fredrik and Matilda had moved into the town of Vimmerby. And Ida Christina who married Jonas Vilhelm Andersson got their three children there, those who came to Jamestown 1868.

During the 1860th there were several years with bad harvest. The population had increased rapidly. And Norralund was too small to feed all people belonging to the family. Christina is about 60 years of age and found a way. She sold Norralund after her husband Petter Jonnson died in 1863, for 550 riksdaler and bought tickets for Amerika, going by boat over England. Maybe this sum of money also made it possible for Fredrik and Matilda to move into Vimmerby. You can read in her letter from Jamestown 1880. She asks her son Fredrik if he still has land left. He may have got land belonging to Norralund, while Ida Christina got the tickets.
